Coronary artery bypass surgery is done for patients with a history of effort angina or a heart attack and whose coronary angiography shows complex situations like long, diffuse and multiple blocks; calcified blocks; blocks in severely tortuous arteries; blocks at certain odd anatomical sites, etc. In all such situations either angioplasty is not feasible or its long term results are unfavourable. In our country, cost of angioplasty with multiple DES is higher than the cost of bypass surgery. And a person may prefer bypass surgery on economic grounds.
