Blood pressure is measured and mentioned in two values. The upper (systolic) and the lower (diastolic) blood pressure is mentioned in unit mm of Hg. Ideal values for an adult is lower than 120/80 mm of Hg. High blood pressure is defined as either systolic blood pressure more than 140 mm of Hg or diastolic blood pressure more than 90 mm of Hg. In-between values i.e. systolic blood pressure of 120 to 139 mm of Hg and diastolic blood pressure of 80 to 89 mm of Hg represent a state of ‘prehypertension’. One with per-hypertension should adopt healthy lifestyle, otherwise there is a high chance that person would develop hypertension in the near future.
