Unfortunately more than 90% of patients with hypertension do not have any symptoms. In many cases, one comes to know about his/her high blood pressure only when one is admitted with a serious illness like acute heart attack or stroke. In a few cases, death is the first symptom of high blood pressure and that’s why it is also known as a ‘silent killer’.
Headache, giddiness, shoulder pain, not feeling fresh after getting up in the morning, feeling of disturbed sleep, chest heaviness, irritability, frequently getting angry on trivial matters, etc. Can be present in different individuals with hypertension. Anyone with one or more of these symptoms must get blood pressure checked because the only way to diagnose high blood pressure is to measure it.
All adults with even normal blood pressure should get their blood pressure checked at a regular interval. Normal blood pressure in the past does not provide any guarantee for the future.
