Introduction :  There is an increase in blood pressure, heartbeats and load on the heart when calcium enters muscle cells of the heart and arteries. When the channels allowing calcium entry into cells are blocked, the arteries get relaxed and pressure on heart decreases.

Effect : These medicines are used mainly to reduce blood pressure and heartbeats.

Dose :

Tab Amlodipine : 2.5 – 20 mg : Once in a day

Tab Nifedipine R : 10 – 40 mg : 2 times a day

Tab Calaptin : 40 – 120 mg : 3 times a day

Tab Diltiazem : 30 – 90 mg : 3 times a day 

Use :

  1. High blood pressure
  2. Stable and unstable Angina
  3. Prinzmetal Angina (Pain caused due to sudden contraction / spasm of coronary arteries.)
  4. Tachyarrhythmia

Side effects :

  1. Low blood pressure 
  2. Swelling on legs
  3. Swelling on gums
  4. Constipation
